Beneath the Stars: A Tale of Bonds and Beyond

Beneath the Stars: A Tale of Bonds and Beyond

A "pride" of men—diverse in culture, places, and backgrounds—embarking on a journey of over 400 miles. No music played, no fancy lights gleamed, just the hum of nature and the quiet of the road. Their nights were spent under one roof, their bodies lined in prayer when the adhan echoed through the freezing night. Under a sky full of stars, they bowed in sujood, united in faith, hearts attuned to the guidance of the Ameer. Was such a journey possible, one might ask? The first mentoring trip of COJ was the resounding answer.

I'd never set foot in Kodaikanal, knew nothing of its routes, food, or sights. I was a stranger to both the place and the task of leading such a trip. With less than a week to plan amidst one of the busiest stretches of my professional life, the odds were stacked high. But miraculously, everything fell into place, like a puzzle whose pieces were divinely aligned.

Behind every success stands a group of unsung heroes. My heartfelt thanks to KC Musthafa, my boss who designed the poster late into the night—may Allah reward him. My gratitude to my friend Sijil, with whom I hadn’t spoken in years. Yet, in mere minutes, he arranged a vehicle and driver despite the busiest season of weddings and bookings. May Allah guide him. And a special mention to the friendly driver who shifted roles from a driver to guide, and sometimes even mentor—may Allah give him hidayat.

Thanks to Wafi for organizing such a beautiful event. To my lake patrol companion, Ajmal Ser, who stood by me through every task and plan, his gift and presence and constant comfort. Aman, thank you for being the playful spirit that lit up our journey. Helmika, your strategic financial planning and thoughtful marriage tips were invaluable. To our guide Afthab, your stories were not just entertaining but also a source of support. Fayaz and Abdullah, your seamless blending with the team.

Thanks to the dog, who wandered into our lives and left us with unforgettable memories, a companion of the road we didn’t expect. Thanks to Suhail Sir, who, with pride and grace, upheld the dignity of Malappuram at every turn. Gratitude to the unknown figures who appeared along the way, offering their support like shadows in the background, yet their presence felt deeply. Thanks to all of you for your prayers, lifting us when we needed it most. And to Iyad, for capturing moments that will forever be etched in our hearts through your lens.

To all who joined the journey, thank you for your presence, your companionship, and your coordination. And for those who couldn’t make it, may Allah grant you an even better opportunity soon إن شاء الله. Until then, our memories will remain etched in our hearts, and my prayers are with you.

Your brother and Ameer,
